Soon, this question and many others will no doubt become topics of conversation among the residents of our community as the deadline for applications approaches.
- Who will submit their applications this month seeking election to serve on the Board of Directors for the next three years?
- Will there be 3 or more candidates to hold an election for 2 positions or, if not, will sufficient candidates be available to fill the vacancies without election?
- Are candidates long term residents with knowledge of the community’s history or newer residents who have joined the community to enjoy the life style it affords?
- Have candidates served on a committee or work group or attended Board planning sessions or meetings?
- What background, skills and experiences do the candidates bring to the Board that can contribute to meeting the needs of the community in the future?
- Are candidates committed to:
- Keeping monthly assessment increases as low as possible
- Funding the Reserve Account at or near 100% to ensure major Association assets and facilities are properly maintained and replaced when needed
Regardless of who applies and who wins, the five continuing Board members will be standing by in August ready and willing to “show them the ropes” as the new members join the team.
And successful candidates need not worry, as a member of the Board of Directors for our Nonprofit Mutual Benefit Corporation there will be plenty to do. Two key duties and responsibilities of the new Board members will include:
- Participating in the development and approval of annual Association goals to maintain, enhance and/or expand programs and services for our residents
- Working with the Finance and Properties committees, the Executive Director and staff to review and approve budgets to achieve the established goals
In due time we will all know the answers to these questions including “Are you that Candidate?”

I would like to take this opportunity to thank resident Peter Lorenzo, who for the past 14 years has hosted the presentation series “Speak Out Sun City.” Peter will be “hanging up his hat” and will no longer be offering his informative, educational and entertaining presentations. A little bit of history…shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attack, resident requests flooded the Activities Department requesting a retired University Professor to offer a lecture explaining events. Peter responded and did a six hour seminar which had to be repeated to allow all interested residents to attend. Shortly thereafter, a demand developed to have a lecture series to discuss important issues and Peter developed “Speak Out Sun City”, a popular discussion group that lasted almost 14 years! The Activities Department would like to thank Peter for his years of dedication and I am certain there are many, many resident that would like to do the same.
The Activities Department will continue to offer free presentations, including “Fascinating Folks” offered by resident Cleo Kocol, and “Community Connections” offered by Christina Richter, President of the Roseville Historical Society. The department continues to offer the ”Speaker Series” funded by the Sun City Foundation, and arranged by the Activities Department. Presentations are offered quarterly for minimum fee of $5.00. Please come out and support this program.
The next “Fascinating Folks” program is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19 as Cleo shares with us the real Pocahontas. Tickets are still available for comedian Cary Long, Friday, April 22 at 7:00PM in the Timber Creek Ballroom. Cary is a fresh new face on the comedy scene; this promises to be a rib-tickling performance!
All residents should have received your personal invitation for the May 16-18 Twenty Year Anniversary Celebration. The events have been very popular and the “Celebrate Good Times” Dinner Dance scheduled for Wednesday, May 18 is sold out. Please help us in making this an enjoyable three days of events by having your tickets for each event as you arrive, follow directions as to where to enter the Lodge for each event and other pertinent information that will be shared in advance. Association staff is prepared to manage a large amount of residents; we kindly ask for your assistance in being patient and courteous as we manage large numbers in the Lodge. As a reminder, all events are ticketed. Please do not plan to attend or enter the event area without a ticket.
We invite you to participate in the celebration by joining the Celebration Parade on Wednesday, May 18 (click here for participation form) or the Twenty Year Anniversary Trivia Challenge scheduled for May 17 & 18 (click here for participation form). Gather your friends, come with your Club or Group, or perhaps just ride along the parade route with your spouse. Registration forms are available in the Association New Bulletin Board. These promise to be fun events!
As we head into spring with this beautiful weather, join us on the bus for a day trip out. If you haven’t tried a bus trip through the Activities Department, I double dog dare you! It’s easy — register, get on the bus, and leave the rest up to your Activities Department, including tickets, meals, entertainment, refreshments and friendly and knowledgeable Trip Escorts.
Tickets are still available for the deYoung Museum, Oscar de La Renta exhibit, scheduled for Wednesday, April 20. Tickets are $76.00 per person and include your museum entrance and audio guide. Wednesday, April 27 will take us to the beautiful Filoli Gardens located in the Bay Area, with a stop at the outdoor Stanford Shopping Center for a no host lunch, located on the Stanford University Campus. Tickets are $78.00 per person. How about a carefree Saturday at the Grass Valley Vintage Car Show on April 30 – it’s a trip down memory lane with classic American automobiles; cost is $32.00 per person.
Tickets are available for “Hello, Dolly”, a Sunday matinee on May 1. This is at the Harris Center for the Arts in Folsom and performed by the El Dorado Musical Theater, a premier youth theater company. They are a “must see” if you’ve never seen them! Tickets are $55.00 per person. Thursday, May 12 will take us to the Golden Gate Fields Horse Racing in Berkeley. It’s a unique experience and includes the popular, extravagant buffet lunch at the Turf Club. Tickets are $78.00 per person.
Sunday, May 15 will find us at the Empire Mine State Historic Park located in Grass Valley. This is beautiful property and provides an opportunity to visit a variety of areas, including the Empire Cottage and the Mine yard. Our bus will take us back along Scenic Route US Highway 40. Tickets are $45.00 per person.

It’s that time again—The Roseville Police Department, in cooperation with federal and state agencies, is offering this free service, which allows you to conveniently dispose of any medicines or drugs for which you no longer have need.
The location for the service will be the parking area along the tennis, pickleball and basketball courts, at the north end of the main lodge parking lot. Look for the squad car and pop-up tent.
Accepted are any prescription or non-prescription medicines, controlled substances, or veterinary medication. They prefer that you pool all the pills and capsules into a zip-lock bag, but it is not required; a paper bag full of pill bottles will suffice. Liquids should be left in their original bottles. However, they cannot accept hypodermic needles, medical waste, aerosols, hydrogen peroxide, or illegal street drugs.
The benefits and purpose of this program:
- Young children all too often ingest meds accidently, which they find in the medicine cabinets of various family members
- Nearly every thief is either a drug addict or knows several, so it helps to advertise that Sun City gets rid of what knuckleheads want
- It helps prevent seniors from confusing which is the right or wrong medication, which can happen when quantities of expired or no-longer prescribed medicines pile up
- Teenagers all too often abuse meds, which they can “appropriate” from the medicine cabinets of various family members
- Medicines which are flushed down the toilet, or dumped in the trash, end up contaminating our water supplies, wildlife, and folks handling our refuse
Let people elsewhere in western Placer County know of these additional locations during the same time slot: Del Oro, Granite Bay, Whitney and Roseville High Schools, Lincoln Police Department, Sierra College, Auburn City Hall, Dewitt Justice Center in Auburn, and Kaiser Hospital on Rocky Ridge Road.

The second Resident Website Workshop was held on April 12th, and it was another packed room! We went over basics such as how to log onto the Resident Website, and how to get into your profile and update information. We also covered the menu and most popular pages on the website.
